CDL Permit Tests In Indiana

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles oversees the CDL and administers the written CDL tests for permits and endorsements. The cost of a CDL permit in Indiana is just $16. The number of written tests you must pass to receive a permit depends on the type of CDL you wish to obtain.

To get the IN CDL permit you must first pass the following written tests over these sections:

Indiana CDL Skills Test

The Indiana CDL skills test (a.k.a. "driving test") can be taken through state-approved 3rd party test sites or a state-run sites. This IN CDL test includes the pre-trip inspection. The cost of the skills test is the same at all sites across the state of Indiana. Some 3rd party test sites also provide vehicle rentals for an additional fee. This can be convenient if you don’t already have access to a CDL vehicle to take your test.

Once you’ve passed the driving test, Indiana will issue a CDL license for $30 (either Class A or Class B). You can add endorsements to you license like HazMat or tanker for an additional $20.
